Jennifer Lawrence Swears Off Mystique and Heavy Makeup Roles: "Absolutely Fucking Not"

Jennifer Lawrence, who took over the role of Mystique in the X-Men prequel films, has repeatedly opened up about the grueling makeup process required to play the character. Transforming into the red-haired, blue-skinned mutant meant spending hours in the makeup chair for full-body paint and intensive hair coloring. Although improved techniques cut down the application time on the later films, the process remained deeply uncomfortable.

Lawrence's version of Mystique may have been killed off in "Dark Phoenix," but in the multiverse era, virtually any character can return. The actress, however, has almost no interest in suiting up again. During a recent interview with Allure, Lawrence was asked whether she would consider another role involving extensive prosthetics or transformative makeup. Her answer was blunt: "Never say never, but absolutely fucking not." She explained that airbrush makeup is freezing cold—and having seven airbrushes spraying her at once made the experience even worse. Because she is also extremely ticklish, she would react whenever the makeup team approached her. Lawrence added that the ordeal taught her how little sleep she could function on and what happens to the human mind when its patience reaches the breaking point.
