The manga "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You," written by Rikito Nakamura and illustrated by Yukiko Nozawa, has spawned two TV anime seasons in 2023 and this year. Its wild, quirky plot, coupled with protagonist Rentaro's polyamorous relationships, has won over a legion of fans.
Now, the voice actor for protagonist Rentaro, Wataru Kato, has officially snagged a Guinness World Record for "Longest monologue in a Japanese language animation" thanks to his "Love Speech" in the second season of the anime, which clocked in at a whopping 7,453 words!
This segment, originally from chapter 37 of "The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You" manga, became an instant meme during its serialization due to its incredibly dense, almost scripture-like dialogue.
The anime's "Love Speech" appeared in episode 24 (the second season finale), where Rentaro passionately declares his affection for every single one of his girlfriends, detailing everything he loves about them. It's one of the most iconic scenes in the entire series. The anime production team masterfully adapted this fan-favorite moment from the manga, bringing it to life in a way only animation can, and in doing so, set this astonishing record.
▼ The anime's rendition was absolutely over-the-top! The original manga only had 9 panels for this, but the anime adaptation stretched it to 11, with the original author even adding extra text specifically to make this Guinness World Record-breaking monologue happen.
Wataru Kato, Rentaro's voice actor, personally accepted the award, joking that Rentaro was his first main character role, and he never imagined he'd be voicing something like this. He was genuinely shocked when he first saw the script, thinking it was a prank. After pouring his heart into the work, receiving such an honor was truly unexpected, he quipped.
What's more, the official team has announced a special event on October 18th! Besides a talk show featuring the main voice cast, they'll also be screening the full, unedited, normal-speed version of the record-breaking "Love Speech" from episode 24 live for the very first time!
