"Project Hail Mary" is adapted from the bestselling sci-fi novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the acclaimed author of "The Martian." Drew Goddard, who also penned the screenplay for "The Martian," returns to write the script. The star-studded cast features Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, Sandra Hüller (a Berlin Film Festival Best Actress winner) as Eva Stratt, and Ken Leung as Yao Li-Jie. The film is slated for a North American release on March 20, 2026.
The plot follows Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher and former molecular biologist, who awakens on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of his mission. As his memories slowly return, he discovers he is humanity's last hope, tasked with a perilous, one-way journey light-years across the galaxy to uncover the mystery behind a cosmic force that is draining the sun's energy and threatening Earth with extinction.
