Cygames' "Uma Musume Pretty Derby" has been a runaway hit since its mobile game launch, sparking massive buzz, popular anime adaptations, and countless collaborations. Now celebrating its 4th anniversary, the franchise has brought the thrill of horse racing to a much wider audience.
Recently, "Uma Musume Pretty Derby" galloped onto Steam, marking its first-ever official English release. This move has been met with overwhelming enthusiasm from Western players, with countless streamers going absolutely wild during their playthroughs, showering the game with rave reviews.
Take Los Angeles-based streamer Arex, for example. He confessed that he'd "never praised a gacha game before," but "Uma Musume Pretty Derby" is "insane!" He highlighted the stunning dynamic 3D effects and character animations, calling them "cinematic," and said the racing scenes were so intense they made him "scream along."
Another international fan even mashed up "Uma Musume Pretty Derby" with a scene from Netflix's "Squid Game" Season 1, where Seong Gi-hun and his friend bet on horse races. The comparison perfectly captures how players can't help but get swept up in the game's emotional rollercoaster – it's pure madness!
This frenzy from Western "Trainers" (as players are known) quickly spread to Japan's X (formerly Twitter) community. Japanese netizens were thrilled to see overseas fans getting so hyped and shouting along, praising their genuine passion for the game.
Of course, with the Steam version just launching, it's bringing back memories of the global obsession that erupted when the Japanese mobile version first dropped. And for anyone who's played the mobile game, you know the initial joy eventually gives way to the endless abyss of character training...
Western players are indeed showering the Steam version with tons of positive reviews, a common perk for new releases. While some regions might face geo-restrictions, witnessing the sheer excitement of these new "Trainers" truly captures the pure joy of raising your Horse Girls.
