It's been 11 years since the last "Night at the Museum" film hit theaters. While the third installment, "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb," was declared the series finale, 20th Century Studios revived the franchise three years ago with the animated sequel "Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again," which premiered on Disney+. Now, new reports indicate that "Kahmunrah Rises Again" won't be the final chapter.

Earlier reports from outlets like Deadline reveal that 21 Laps, the production company founded by Shawn Levy, who directed the first three "Night at the Museum" films, has tapped Tripper Clancy, known for writing the "Die Hart" series and "Stuber," to pen the script for a fourth live-action "Night at the Museum" movie.

The report did not specify whether original cast members such as Ben Stiller, Rami Malek, and Owen Wilson would return. However, a reunion appears unlikely, as Deadline noted that the fourth live-action film will feature an entirely new story, introduce a fresh set of characters, and is being emphasized as a "reimagining" of the franchise.

While the report didn't explicitly state it's a remake, the term "reimagining" often suggests something other than a direct reboot. This could indicate a soft reboot sequel, with a new generation of protagonists taking the lead. Levy has not yet confirmed his return to direct, leaving the director's chair for the fourth installment vacant. However, it's highly possible he might step back entirely into a producer role, handing over directing duties to someone else.
