Back in January, it was reported that "The VVitch" director Robert Eggers was developing a new "Werewolf" film, titled "Werwulf," for Universal Pictures. Today, entertainment outlet Nexus Point News broke the story that Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp have joined the cast. Johnson is set to play the titular werewolf, with Depp cast as his wife.
Taylor-Johnson and Depp recently co-starred in Eggers' critically acclaimed remake, "Nosferatu," which was also distributed by Universal. The film was a significant hit last holiday season, earning an impressive $181 million globally against a mid-range budget of just over $50 million.

Eggers is directing "Werwulf" and co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón, who previously collaborated with him on "The Northman." Chris Columbus, director of the first two "Harry Potter" films and a producer on Eggers' "The VVitch," "The Lighthouse," and the recent "Nosferatu," is also returning as a producer, alongside his daughter Eleanor Columbus.
"Werwulf" is currently slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Further casting announcements are expected soon, with principal photography scheduled to commence this September to meet its late 2026 theatrical window.
