Now, they're diving deep into the sci-fi realm, announcing new merchandise inspired by the OVA anime adaptation of the novel series, "Battle Fairy Yukikaze"! This is a rare treat for fans, as the collection includes protagonist Rei Fukai's iconic Sukajan jacket and baseball cap, faithfully recreated from the show. Pre-orders are live on COSPA's official website, with an official release slated for late October 2025.
"Battle Fairy Yukikaze" originated as a hard sci-fi military aviation novel series by Chōhei Kambayashi. Initially published as a series of short stories between 1979 and 1983, they were later compiled into a single volume in 1984. The series then received a five-episode OVA adaptation by GONZO between 2002 and 2005.
The story plunges into a future where humanity is locked in a brutal war against an alien lifeform known as "JAM" on the enigmatic planet Fairy. To combat these otherworldly invaders, the "Special Tactical Combat Force" is established, featuring ace pilot Rei Fukai as its central figure.
Fukai pilots "Yukikaze," an unmanned combat support aircraft equipped with highly advanced AI. The narrative intensely explores the almost human-like bond between Fukai and Yukikaze, delving into profound themes of humanity versus machine, self-identity, and the harsh realities of war – all delivered with a seriously gritty style.
This new apparel line meticulously recreates the outfits worn by Rei Fukai in the OVA, featuring both the Sukajan jacket and the baseball cap. Both items are crafted with incredible attention to detail, utilizing high-precision embroidery to ensure top-notch quality and an authentic feel.
