The global search for the seventh actor to portray James Bond began long before Daniel Craig officially stepped down, with fans actively scouting potential candidates for the studio. Taron Egerton quickly emerged as a popular choice, largely due to his starring role in the "Kingsman" franchise, a series heavily inspired by the Bond films. Given his portrayal of a secret agent in "Kingsman," it was natural for many to see him as an ideal successor for 007. However, Egerton himself doesn't believe he's the right fit for the iconic role.

While promoting his new film, "She Rides Shotgun," Egerton recently spoke with Collider and admitted he has little interest in taking on the James Bond mantle. "No, I don't think I'm a good choice for it," Egerton stated. "I think I'm too messy for that. I really don't think I'm the right fit — but I really love James Bond and particularly Daniel Craig's tenure."

Egerton elaborated on his reasoning, saying, "But I think I wouldn't be good at it, and I think there are so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it. I think it would be wasted on me, probably." He continued, clarifying that this doesn't mean he lacks ambition or interest in more commercial projects. "That's not to say that I don't have aspirations and plans and also that I wouldn't be interested in doing something that's more commercial, because of course I would. I think I'm in a period in my life where, as you say, I've been probably following the things that speak to me on a creative level a little bit more, but, you know, I'm sure I won't feel that way forever."

He concluded by reflecting on the demands of the role: "But James Bond is quite an undertaking and I think, one, as far as I'm aware, nobody's asking me to do it (laughs). But also, it's possibly not quite the thing that would make me happiest. I do think it's a big old undertaking, it kind of consumes your life, a role like that."
