Last month, Amazon and MGM Studios made a significant announcement: the first film in the seventh generation of the James Bond series would be helmed by "Dune" director Denis Villeneuve. Now, just over a month later, Amazon and MGM have followed up by revealing that Steven Knight (pictured below), the screenwriter behind "Allied" and creator of the series "Peaky Blinders," will be responsible for penning the script.

Previous rumors suggested that Jonathan Nolan, co-creator of the HBO series "Westworld," was also in contention to direct the new Bond film. Although he was not ultimately chosen to direct, Amazon was reportedly very impressed by his Bond story pitch and had considered hiring him as a screenwriter. However, it now appears Amazon has opted for Knight's vision.

The highly anticipated casting of the next James Bond actor, however, will not happen anytime soon. Villeneuve is currently focused on filming "Dune: Part Three," while Knight will be dedicated to completing the script.
