'Deadpool' Creator Slams 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' as "Boring"—But Box Office and Fans Disagree

Marvel Studios' Phase Six launchpad, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," has earned widespread praise from critics and audiences alike, backed by a stellar box office run. However, "Deadpool" co-creator Rob Liefeld is having none of it, sparking controversy by bluntly calling the film "boring as hell."

Liefeld recently took to social media, recounting his experience at a 5 PM Tuesday IMAX screening of "The Fantastic Four" where the theater was nearly empty. "I can tell you there is zero re-watchability because it is so boring," he declared. He stressed that the showing was during "Discount Tuesday," which should have drawn a crowd, and highlighted the film's apparent box office gap compared to competitors like "Superman" and "Jurassic World Rebirth."

However, fans quickly pushed back against Liefeld's anecdotal evidence, pointing out that a single, off-peak screening isn't a valid measure of a film's success. Many argued that Tuesday afternoons are naturally slow for theaters and that the actual box office data completely contradicts his assessment.

In fact, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" grossed over $250 million worldwide in its opening week, making it one of the most successful MCU debuts since "Deadpool & Wolverine." The film also secured positive scores on Rotten Tomatoes and from audiences via CinemaScore.

It's worth noting that Liefeld also used the platform to urge Marvel to prioritize a "Deadpool 4," arguing its box office potential shouldn't be overlooked. "Just give the audience what they want!" he wrote. Liefeld has been a vocal supporter of "Deadpool & Wolverine," reflecting his deep connection to the character.
