Chad Stahelski, director of the "John Wick" franchise, has announced a new cast member for his upcoming "Highlander" reboot. The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively revealed that Dave Bautista is expected to portray the film's main villain, The Kurgan.
This isn't Bautista's first connection to the role; a decade ago, he was in discussions to play The Kurgan for a different "Highlander" iteration being developed by Summit Entertainment. That version, which was to be directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan ("The Huntsman: Winter's War"), ultimately did not move forward.

Other cast members for the new "Highlander" include Henry Cavill as protagonist Connor MacLeod and Marisa Abela as Brenda Wyatt.
The film's writing team includes Ryan J. Condal, co-writer of "Rampage"; Kerry Williamson, co-writer of "What Happened to Monday"; and Michael Finch, co-writer of "John Wick: Chapter 4." Principal photography is slated to begin by the end of next month, with filming locations spanning the UK and Hong Kong. Amazon and MGM have not yet announced a release date.
