The upcoming "The Fantastic Four," slated for release in July 2025, is set to deliver a shocking climax: Invisible Woman Sue Storm sacrifices herself to save Earth and her son, Franklin, by pushing Galactus into a portal. Pushed beyond her limits, she seemingly perishes.
While Franklin's "cosmic power" later resurrects her, this harrowing experience is poised to be a pivotal turning point in her character's destiny.
Vanessa Kirby, who portrays Sue Storm, recently spoke with MovieWeb, revealing how she's using this storyline as a foundation for her character in "Avengers: Doomsday."
"I often think about how, within just a week, someone experiences birth, death, and then rebirth. How would such a death experience fundamentally change her?" Kirby mused.
She added that to portray these emotions authentically, she specifically listened to accounts from people who have had "near-death experiences." "They described how they were transformed after that experience, and how they returned completely different from before. These stories greatly inspired me," Kirby explained.
Speculation suggests that "Doomsday" will not only delve into Sue's psychological transformation but also focus on Franklin's mastery of his "cosmic power." Drawing from comic book lore, he can not only revive the dead but also create entirely new realities, which could profoundly impact the plot's direction.
The post-credits scene for "The Fantastic Four" further hints at Franklin's immense intelligence and an unresolved subplot involving Doctor Doom.
"Avengers: Doomsday" boasts an all-star cast, featuring familiar faces like Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Robert Downey Jr. Additionally, lead actors from "The Fantastic Four" and "X-Men" franchises are set to join, making it the largest ensemble in MCU history.
The film is currently slated for release on May 1, 2026, with its sequel, "Avengers: Secret Wars," following on May 7, 2027.
