After a decade without directing a narrative feature, Cameron Crowe, the acclaimed filmmaker behind "Jerry Maguire" and "Vanilla Sky," finally has new developments on his next project. Renowned entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider recently revealed on his blog, The InSneider, that Crowe's long-gestating biopic about Canadian singer Joni Mitchell has found another lead.

Sneider reported last year that Meryl Streep had already entered talks to play Mitchell in the film. Just days ago, Sneider broke the news again, reporting that Anya Taylor-Joy is also in talks to join the cast, also portraying Mitchell. According to Sneider's sources, Crowe intends for Streep to play Mitchell in her later years, while Taylor-Joy would portray her during the peak of her career.

Sneider repeatedly emphasized that this won't be a traditional biopic, but rather more of an autobiography, as Mitchell herself is involved in the scriptwriting. Crowe was reportedly set to begin filming this past March, but a California wildfire earlier this year affected his residence, causing a delay in the production schedule. Sneider also noted that Kristine Frøseth, known for the Apple TV+ series "The Buccaneers," also vied for the role against Taylor-Joy and delivered an excellent audition. However, Taylor-Joy's greater star power and ability to attract investors ultimately led to her selection.

This project holds special personal significance for Crowe. As a former music editor for Rolling Stone magazine, his final interview piece for the publication in 1979 was with Mitchell, and he and Mitchell have maintained a strong personal friendship over the years. Beyond Crowe, Mitchell and Streep are also close friends.
