Spider-Verse Hitmakers Phil Lord & Christopher Miller Team Up for New "Archie Comics" Film with Writer Tom King

Hollywood hitmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the acclaimed duo behind "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and "The Lego Movie," have announced they are developing a new "Archie Comics" adaptation. The news immediately garnered significant attention from comic and film fans.

The pair will produce the project alongside Lord Miller President Aditya Sood, with the film officially launching through their first-look deal with Universal Pictures.

Comic writer Tom King is penning the script. While story details remain under wraps and it's currently unclear if the film will be animated or live-action, the project is already being hailed as a powerful, multi-generational entertainment initiative.

Lord and Miller expressed their excitement in a statement, noting: "We have been fans of Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the whole gang for a long time. When we heard Tom King’s take on the classic material, we knew it was perfect for a big, event-level film. It will appeal to longtime fans and a new generation alike, and we are incredibly excited to bring these beloved characters to the big screen."

With an 85-year history and over 3 billion copies sold, the classic "Archie Comics" universe, featuring characters like Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, has long been deeply embedded in popular culture.

In recent years, these characters have re-entered the spotlight for a new generation of viewers through hit CW series "Riverdale" and Netflix's "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina."
