The acclaimed studio MADHOUSE is taking the reins, and fans are already buzzing. The announcement dropped today (August 23rd) along with a killer teaser visual and a special promo video, confirming the series will hit screens in 2026.
"LIAR GAME" ran from 2005 to 2015 in "Weekly Young Jump," racking up 19 tankobon volumes. Diving deep into the "light and dark of human nature," the series weaves a thrilling web of lies, deception, and cunning strategies, pushing characters to their psychological limits. Since its debut, it's been a global sensation, hailed as a definitive "brain battle manga."
The previous live-action drama, starring Shota Matsuda and Erika Toda, was a massive success. Despite some plot tweaks, the cast and production quality were top-notch, making it one of the rare live-action adaptations that truly nailed it.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the manga's serialization, making it the perfect time for an anime announcement. The upcoming anime will feature Yuzo Sato as Chief Director, Asami Kawano as Director, Tatsuhiko Urahata handling series composition and screenplay, and Kei Tsuchiya on character design. Kiske Koizumi will serve as Sound Director, with MADHOUSE—the studio behind hits like "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" and "The Earthling"—bringing their full creative power to the project.
