Will Tracy, screenwriter of "The Menu," penned the script for "Bugonia." The cast also features Alicia Silverstone, Jesse Plemons, and stand-up comedian Stavros Halkias. Original director Jang Joon-hwan was initially set to helm the English-language version four years ago but ultimately stepped down from the project.

The official synopsis for the American version states: Two conspiracy theory-obsessed young men kidnap a powerful corporate CEO, convinced she is an alien attempting to destroy Earth.
