Last month, Ben Stiller revealed to the Los Angeles Times that he was preparing to direct a World War II survival thriller next spring, though he didn't disclose the title or if it was an adaptation. Today, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has provided more details about the project.

The film is titled "Airman" and is set to star Golden Globe winner Jeremy Allen White from "The Bear." Independent studio A24 is currently in negotiations to acquire the distribution rights.

THR also reported that "Airman" is an adaptation of Seth Meyerowitz's book, "The Lost Airman: A True Story of Escape From Nazi-Occupied France," which chronicles the true wartime experiences of Meyerowitz's grandfather, Arthur Meyerowitz, during World War II.

In 1943, Arthur's B-24 bomber was shot down over Vichy France. While hiding in the French countryside, Arthur befriended Marcel Talliander, founder of the French Resistance network Reseau Morhange. Talliander used his secret network to help Arthur evade the Gestapo. After six perilous months in hiding, Arthur and Talliander devised an escape plan, successfully helping Arthur cross the border into Spain and ultimately regain his freedom. The screenplay for the film adaptation was penned by Ben Shattuck, writer of "The History of Sound."
