GBWC Japan Entry Transforms PG Zaku into a Killer "Sengoku Zaku" Samurai Gunpla!

If you're into Gunpla, you've probably dabbled in all sorts of customization – painting, cutting, weathering, you name it. It's all about making your model stand out and injecting your own unique flair, blending in other themes to unleash endless creative freedom!

Today, we're shining a spotlight on Gunpla builder Katori ( @Katori_13 ), who entered the 13th Gunpla Builders World Cup (GBWC) in Japan. Katori crafted an incredible "Sengoku Zaku," a samurai-inspired build with a distinct Japanese aesthetic that's been racking up serious praise online.

Katori revealed that he'd always wanted to tackle the challenge of "PG-grade Gunpla kitbashing + Japanese style," and this year's GBWC was the perfect opportunity to make it happen. His competition entry featured a custom base for the model.

The core of the build is a PG Zaku, but Katori added a traditional kasa (straw hat) and shoulder parts from the "La Vie en Rose" from "Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory." The waist incorporates elements from a PG Dom. The katana and its sheath on the back were hand-sculpted, with other sections pieced together from various kits.

He also pushed the envelope by posing the Zaku in a dynamic drawing-the-sword stance. That mono-eye glowing alongside the samurai blade? Pure atmosphere, absolutely nailing the vibe!

Of course, the competition is still underway, so whether it snags a prize is up to the judges. But Katori feels this piece is a complete realization of his vision, and he's super satisfied with it regardless of the outcome. He's even planning to dive into similar projects in the future.
