"Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds" New Trailer Drops, Savagely Roasting "Mario Kart World"'s "Dull" Open-World Gameplay

SEGA is reigniting its legendary rivalry with Nintendo! In the freshly dropped trailer for "Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds," the blue blur's camp directly takes aim at "Mario Kart World," a launch title for the Switch 2. The new promo uses humor—and a healthy dose of playful provocation—to highlight the stark differences in gameplay between the two racing titans.

Titled "Come Race on Our Level," the trailer kicks off with a high-energy narrator hyping up "CrossWorlds'" multiverse-spanning track designs and cross-platform multiplayer capabilities.

But then, the tone suddenly shifts to a noticeably dull, unenthusiastic drawl when discussing "Mario Kart World"'s "free-roaming open-world" feature. It's a clear jab at the perceived blandness of its gameplay, echoing the mixed reception from the player community.

What's even more audacious? The video appears to feature footage from "Mario Kart World" itself! While heavily pixelated to skirt legal issues, it's unmistakably the rival game.

The "CrossWorlds" segment showcases sleek, high-speed racers tearing through tracks, starkly contrasted by a dusty SUV puttering along next to a cow and a turtle – a not-so-subtle dig at the competitor's lack of speed and excitement.

The narrator then directly challenges: "Everyone knows that kart game. It's great, we don't need to show you. But what if you could race across dimensions, fully customize your ride, and go head-to-head cross-platform? Or... just cruise around on an open road?" The tone is dripping with classic SEGA-style sass.

"Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds" is set to launch on September 25, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Switch 1, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S – hitting shelves just six months after "Mario Kart World."

However, the release date for the Switch 2 version remains unconfirmed, leading to speculation that SEGA might be intentionally staggering its launch to avoid a direct clash with Nintendo.

Regardless, this classic "Sonic vs. Mario" showdown has once again ignited player excitement. Whether Nintendo will respond to SEGA's playful provocation with humor remains a key point of interest.
