Three years after its publication, Freida McFadden's psychological thriller novel "The Housemaid" was quickly acquired by Lionsgate for a film adaptation. The movie is finally set to hit theaters later this year, and Lionsgate has just dropped the first trailer and several promotional posters (pictured below). The film is based on McFadden's eponymous series, which currently includes two sequels and a short story. Should the film perform well at the box office, there's ample material for future installments.
The official synopsis reads: To escape her past, Millie takes a job as a housemaid for the wealthy Nina and Andrew Winchester. What seems like an ideal position quickly turns perilous as a seductive game of secrets, scandals, and power unfolds. The shocking conspiracy hidden behind the Winchester family will keep audiences guessing until the very end.

The star-studded cast features Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, along with Elizabeth Perkins and Michele Morrone, both of whom recently appeared in Feig's previous work, "Another Simple Favor," the sequel to "A Simple Favor." The film is slated for a North American release on December 19th this year.
