Released in 2019, "The Curse of La Llorona" was arguably the least discussed entry in "The Conjuring" universe. It neither spun off from an established character in the main series nor was it the highest-grossing film in the franchise. Despite this, "The Curse of La Llorona" still grossed $123 million worldwide against a budget of less than $10 million, a strong performance for a horror film. A sequel, therefore, makes perfect financial sense.

In a surprising turn, renowned film and TV journalist Daniel Richtman recently revealed on his Patreon page that a sequel to "The Curse of La Llorona" is indeed in active development and casting. Production is reportedly set to begin next month in Buffalo, New York, with the film officially titled "The Revenge of La Llorona."
Richtman also noted that Michael Chaves, director of "The Nun II" and "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It," will not return to helm the sequel. Instead, the directorial reins will be handed to Santiago Menghini, known for his work on "No One Gets Out Alive." Sean Tretta, co-writer of the "12 Monkeys" series, will take over screenwriting duties.
