Three-time Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis has announced his retirement twice: first after completing "The Boxer" in 1997, and most recently in 2017 following "Phantom Thread." However, last year, Day-Lewis made another comeback, starring in his son Ronan Day-Lewis's directorial debut, "Anemone". The film's first trailer was recently released.

Day-Lewis had previously clarified that he didn't consider either of those instances official retirements. But recently, while attending the New York Film Festival with "Anemone," when asked about his seemingly habitual retirement announcements, he self-deprecatingly remarked, "I've been declared retired twice now (laughs). My declaration that I was going to stop acting probably made a fool of myself, and my comeback has done the same."

Day-Lewis also seriously admitted that his performance in "Phantom Thread" had indeed taken a toll on his mental state, contributing to his decision to retire. However, with the release of "Anemone," Day-Lewis's perspective on his acting career has become more open. He stated, "I previously told myself that I chose to retire because I no longer expected to find passion for this work, but it turns out I did, and I am grateful for that, and I hope to continue acting."
