Seiko x Time Bokan Collab Celebrates 50th Anniversary with a Limited-Edition Chronograph

Japanese watchmaker SEIKO is no stranger to the anime collaboration scene, having dropped numerous fan-favorite timepieces for various iconic series.

Now, the brand is turning back the clock to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a true classic: Tatsunoko Production's 1970s sci-fi hit, Time Bokan. The collaboration rolls out a special anniversary chronograph, priced at 65,780 JPY and currently available for pre-order on the PREMICO official website.

First aired in 1975, Time Bokan became a sensation in Japan and abroad, spawning numerous sequels and becoming a cherished memory for many who grew up in the '80s. It was a sci-fi anime that perfectly captured the era's imagination.

The story follows scientist Dr. Kieda, who successfully builds a beetle-shaped time machine. To prove its stability and safety, he takes it for a test run himself. But when the machine returns, the doctor is nowhere to be found—only a talking parrot named Perasuke, who wears a massive "W-Dynamond," the most valuable mineral in existence. It's up to Dr. Kieda's two young assistants, Tanpei and Junko, along with their little robot Chorobo, to fire up their own time machine and travel through the ages to bring him back.

This team-up with SEIKO delivers a commemorative watch that perfectly blends nostalgic vibes with mechanical romance. The design draws heavy inspiration from the show's memorable opening animation and its various mechs, creating a piece that's both retro and highly collectible.

The silver dial is adorned with gear motifs of various sizes, while the indices are cleverly shaped like nuts and bolt heads, channeling a "time-traveling mechanical dream" full of Showa-era charm and playful detail.

The watch face is equipped with a tachymeter, and the second hand features the signature red and yellow of protagonist Tanpei's helmet. The sub-dials are packed with Easter eggs: the minute-counter incorporates the "T" logo from the series title, the 24-hour dial is modeled after the tires of the Time Mechabuton, and the small seconds dial features the iconic skull clock from the anime's opening sequence.

The hour and minute hands are coated with a cool blue LumiBrite paint, ensuring you can read the time even when you're lost in the dark depths of history.

As a nod to the year the anime first aired, the watch is a limited edition of just 1,975 pieces worldwide. The case back is engraved with a unique serial number and the official 50th-anniversary logo.

The packaging is just as impressive, designed to look like the skull clock from the opening credits. You can even turn the hands on the box, recreating the scene from the show. Inside, the set includes production stills and concept art, dialing the nostalgia up to eleven.
