"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" Goes on Hiatus for Creator Health, Future Serialization to Be Adjusted

Last March, the first season of the critically acclaimed anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End wrapped up, and now, the second season is set to premiere in January 2026.

While the manga has been consistently updating, yesterday (October 14), the editorial department of "Weekly Shonen Sunday" announced a temporary hiatus. Citing health concerns for original author Kanehito Yamada and artist Tsukasa Abe, the series will be adjusting its serialization pace and format going forward. The hiatus begins with the next issue, and a return date has not yet been decided.

The editorial department released a statement saying: "Thank you all for your continued support of 'Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.' Regarding future publication arrangements, we have discussed with both Yamada-sensei and Abe-sensei, and considering their health, we have decided to go on a temporary hiatus. We will adjust the serialization pace and format according to the situation to continue bringing you the story's future developments."

The statement also mentioned: "Both teachers are currently still creating, and the editorial department will fully support them. Specific details regarding the work's return will be announced in future issues of 'Weekly Shonen Sunday.' We ask for your continued support of 'Frieren: Beyond Journey's End' in the future."

Of course, the current "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" manga plot is at a point that leaves fans eagerly anticipating what comes next, so the sudden hiatus caught many off guard. However, given that it's for the health of the author and artist, the reason is perfectly understandable. Many fans are hoping they recover quickly and return to continue the story.

Fans eager for the next chapter will have to wait for official updates to see how the story unfolds.
