Marvel Studios' upcoming "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" sparked a massive casting search, drawing in a slew of prominent actors. While names like Matt Smith, Adam Driver, and Dev Patel were widely discussed, Tom Ellis, known for his starring role as Lucifer Morningstar in the DC series "Lucifer," quietly joined the fray, auditioning for the coveted part of Mister Fantastic, Reed Richards.
In a recent interview with "Square Mile," Ellis admitted he had high hopes for the role. He shared, "There were only a handful of us asked to put ourselves on tape, and I'd been waiting for a while for the right role and the right time. I remember seeing a picture of Reed Richards in the comics and thinking, 'We actually look quite similar, this might be the one.'"
However, the role ultimately went to Pedro Pascal, star of "The Mandalorian" and "The Last of Us."
Ellis responded with humor, quipping, "He hasn't done much, has he? (laughs) But he's brilliant, and I'm really looking forward to seeing his version. The trailer certainly looks interesting."
When asked if he felt any regret missing out on such a major superhero blockbuster, Ellis expressed a philosophical outlook. "I understand the sentiment that getting the role is sometimes more fun than actually doing it, but I genuinely enjoy the process of working," he stated. "Acting is a profession where you live for those 'what if it actually works out?' moments."
"We get into this business because we all had a dream," Ellis added. "But I think we're always dreamers, and anyone who says they're not dreaming anymore is either too cynical or shouldn't be in this industry."
