Last month, foreign media outlet Nexus Point News reported that Glen Powell and Michael B. Jordan were in talks to star in the second reboot of the "Miami Vice" film. However, that casting combination has now changed.
Jordan's involvement has since been confirmed by multiple outlets, with him still in negotiations to join the project. Powell, however, is reportedly out, replaced by Austin Butler, who earned an Oscar nomination for "Elvis" and recently portrayed the villain Feyd-Rautha in "Dune: Part Two." This new pairing recreates the iconic Black and white lead dynamic of previous iterations.

The new "Miami Vice" film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for "F1" and "Top Gun: Maverick." Eric Warren Singer, one of the screenwriters for "Maverick," and Dan Gilroy, director of "Nightcrawler," are both involved in penning the script. The story is set to explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami, drawing heavily from the original TV series' pilot and first season, unlike the 2006 film which was set in modern times. Production is slated to begin next year, with a release date targeted for August 6, 2027. The movie will be filmed with IMAX cameras.
