Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence, two Oscar-winning actresses who debuted and rose to fame around the same time, share a close friendship but have never publicly collaborated on any project. Now, they've finally found the perfect material to develop together.

Variety recently reported that Disney Pictures is developing a spin-off film centered on the iconic "Miss Piggy" character from the long-running "The Muppets" franchise. Stone and Lawrence are set to produce, while Broadway star Cole Escola, who recently joined the live-action "One Piece" as Mr.2 Bon Clay, will pen the script.

During a recent appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," Lawrence elaborated on what inspired her to pursue the project. She recounted a conversation with a non-industry friend during the pandemic, a time when cancel culture was also at its peak. Her friend remarked that Miss Piggy, being a feminist icon, getting canceled would be "hilarious." While the film's plot isn't about Miss Piggy being canceled, Lawrence said the idea planted a seed, leading them to realize that "the very feminist Miss Piggy hasn't actually starred in her own dedicated film yet."

Lawrence continued, explaining that she began developing the project and approached Stone, a self-proclaimed "Muppets" superfan. Lawrence described Stone as "the type who would turn around, wearing a leather jacket and with a cigar in her mouth, and say, 'Hey kid, let me tell you some insider secrets about Hollywood.'" She added that Stone was the "ideal person to produce this film," so she went to her to discuss "how we should make it." When asked if she would also star in the film, Lawrence responded, "Yeah, I think I will. I mean, I have to, right? I mean, I want to, too (laughs)."
