Japanese watchmaking giant SEIKO has a history of collaborating with various ACG (Anime, Comics, Games) IPs, consistently releasing stylish timepieces that fans absolutely adore.
They've just announced a new collaboration with "Neon Genesis Evangelion" – which is celebrating its 30th anime anniversary – to drop a killer watch themed after the iconic "500 TYPE EVA-02" Shinkansen. This release also marks the 10th anniversary of the "Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion" series. Priced at 59,400 JPY, this bad boy is limited to just 5,000 units worldwide.
Back in 2015, when "Neon Genesis Evangelion" hit its 20th TV anime anniversary and Japan's Sanyo Shinkansen celebrated 40 years of operation, they teamed up for the "Shinkansen: Evangelion Project." This epic collaboration birthed the "500 TYPE EVA" train, decked out in the Unit-01 color scheme. Not only was the exterior meticulously crafted, but Car 1 even featured a life-sized entry plug cockpit, with the entire interior designed to immerse passengers in the Evangelion universe. We bet countless Eva fans were itching to make a pilgrimage to see it!
Later, they also unveiled the "500 TYPE EVA-02" Shinkansen. This unique design was born from the hypothetical "What if there was a Unit-02 version of the 500 TYPE EVA?" While it never actually hit the tracks, it was showcased for fans to admire.
The watch face itself draws inspiration from the 500 TYPE EVA-02 seen head-on. It features the black windshield of the Shinkansen cockpit, combined with a vibrant red gradient that instantly evokes EVA Unit-02. Talk about presence!
And get this: the iconic "long, pointed nose" of the 500 series is cleverly represented by three sub-dials, mimicking cockpit instruments and arranged in a parabolic curve for that sleek, aerodynamic look. The whole piece just screams cool and mechanical!
