Jeremy Renner Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations; Chinese Director Yi Zhou Counters With Claims of Inappropriate Messages Amid Legal Battle

Marvel's "Hawkeye" star Jeremy Renner is embroiled in controversy after Chinese director Yi Zhou accused him of violent behavior and alleged sexual harassment during a meeting at his home in August 2024. Renner's camp has vehemently denied the claims, and both parties have reportedly exchanged cease and desist letters as the dispute escalates.

According to the Daily Mail, Zhou claims that during a meeting at Renner's home, he consumed an entire bottle of red wine and became agitated, forcing her to lock herself in a room overnight for safety. A subsequent text message dispute allegedly saw Zhou accuse Renner of sending explicit photos and making a purported threat, stating, "Immigration will be notified of your..."

Renner's spokesperson later clarified to Variety, stating, "The allegations are completely inaccurate and untrue." According to a legal letter obtained by TMZ, Renner asserted that the two had a "brief, consensual relationship" and claimed Zhou had previously sent "hundreds of explicit messages." He also emphasized that when they met again, he had made it clear he did not wish to pursue a relationship, and Zhou had merely stayed in a guest room that night.

Zhou, in turn, refuted these claims, stating she had sent multiple legal letters to Renner, accusing him of continuously sending "sexually suggestive or uncomfortable messages," which caused "psychological distress and pressure." She further posted on Instagram, asserting, "This experience exposes the dark side of Hollywood and a smear campaign targeting women and Asian female directors."

The two had previously collaborated on a Disney documentary, and Zhou had publicly stated she was "dating" Renner, criticizing him for not promoting their joint project. The revelation of this dispute has since divided public opinion.
