"Joker: Folie à Deux" faced significant backlash from audiences upon its release last year, with its box office plummeting from the original film's billion-dollar haul to a mere $200 million, failing to even recoup its production costs. Addressing the outcome, Lady Gaga, who stars in the film, stated earlier this year: "I think as an artist, you have to be willing to accept that sometimes people just don't like your work, and even if things don't happen the way you expected, you have to let it go." Now, in a recent interview with "Rolling Stone" magazine, she has opened up further about her feelings.

Gaga revealed to "Rolling Stone": "I wasn't completely undisturbed at the time. It's funny, I was even a little nervous to express my feelings, but honestly, when those reviews first started circulating, I actually laughed because the situation was so out of control. If some things take time to slowly settle down, it might be painful, but that's because I poured so much of myself into this film."

Gaga later channeled the emotions "Folie à Deux" evoked into a track from her eighth album as a form of catharsis. She stated, "There were a lot of negative reviews for 'Joker' at the time, and I felt a bit rebellious artistically. I put a lot of energy into the music video for that track. I was just in that state, you know, where I thought, 'I'm going to show you the real me, I'm going to show you how I fight back.'"
