Sony Interactive Entertainment's "Helldivers" shooter franchise, which announced a live-action film adaptation in January, has now set its creative team. After nearly a year in development, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has finally revealed that acclaimed director Justin Lin, known for helming multiple "The Fast Saga" films, is set to direct. Horror screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who penned the "It" franchise and the "Annabelle" trilogy, will write the script.

THR's report notes that Lin himself is not a gamer, but his pitch to Sony Pictures focuses on character development, intricate world-building, and weaving in generational themes. Dauberman, on the other hand, has prior experience adapting video game IPs for the big screen, having penned the screenplay for the upcoming film adaptation of "Until Dawn."
In addition to "Helldivers," Lin is also developing the live-action American film adaptation of "One-Punch Man" with Sony, a project he has been involved with since 2020.
