Manga artist Aka Akasaka's hit series, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -The Geniuses' Romantic Battle-, wrapped up its manga run three years ago, but the anime has only released three seasons with no further news—until now!
Back in June, it was announced that a TV special anime titled "Steps Towards Adulthood" was in the works. Today (December 9), the official broadcast date was finally revealed: it's set to air in Japan on December 31 at 10 PM JST. A new PV and details on the theme song artists were also dropped.
"Kaguya-sama: Love Is War" is a romantic comedy set at Shuchiin Academy, following Vice President Kaguya Shinomiya and President Miyuki Shirogane. Both are head over heels for each other but too stubborn to confess, turning their love into a high-stakes intellectual battle to make the other person say "I love you" first. The series has already spawned three TV anime seasons and two live-action films, proving its massive popularity.
This special marks the first new anime content in three years, following the third season, "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War -Ultra Romantic-," which aired in 2022. Airing on New Year's Eve as a special episode suggests the creators are confident it will draw fans back in for a festive viewing.
As for the plot of "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War: Steps Towards Adulthood," it's currently unknown whether it will adapt existing manga chapters or feature an original story.
On the music front, the official announcement confirms that Masayuki Suzuki will team up with Aoi Koga, the voice of Kaguya Shinomiya, to perform the theme song "Abunai Kioku." This marks Masayuki Suzuki's fifth time contributing to the "Kaguya-sama: Love Is War" anime, and he expressed his gratitude for being able to continue with such a fantastic series.
Aoi Koga, who joins him on vocals this time, shared her immense honor in participating in a song for a series so special to her heart. She hopes everyone will tune in for the special anime episode.
A snippet of the song can already be heard in the promotional video.
