Fans have been clamoring for an anime adaptation of Toshiaki Iwashiro's manga, "PSYREN," ever since it wrapped up in 2010. For years, though, it was radio silence.
This week, eagle-eyed netizens spotted a suspicious countdown website, sparking massive buzz. And sure enough, once the clock hit zero tonight (December 14), the official announcement dropped: "PSYREN" is getting a TV anime! A teaser visual, promotional video, production staff, and main voice cast were all revealed alongside the news.

"PSYREN" (PSYЯEN -サイレン-) ran in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 2008 to 2010, collecting 16 tankobon volumes.
The story kicks off with first-year high schooler Ageha Yoshina, who one day finds a mysterious red phone card marked "PSYREN" next to a public phone. Days later, his childhood friend and classmate, Sakurako Amamiya, vanishes after being seen with the same card. Desperate to find her, Ageha follows the trail, leading him to the "secret society PSYREN"—rumored to be behind a string of "divine disappearances" across the country. And just like that, a deadly game begins.

The main voice cast has also been unveiled! Rikuya Yasuda, known for voicing Kotei Hinata in "Kotei-kun wa Sawaritai," will take on the lead role of Ageha Yoshina. Meanwhile, Mayuko Kazama, who plays Sayo Mizukami / Magia Azul in "Gushing over Magical Girls," is set to voice the heroine Sakurako Amamiya.

The anime will be produced by SATELIGHT, the studio behind recent hits like "The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World" and "Helck." Directing duties fall to Katsumi Ono, known for "Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V" and "Symphogear G," while Shin Yoshida, who worked on "Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL," will handle series composition.

Original author Toshiaki Iwashiro shared his excitement about the adaptation:
"It's finally happening! An anime! This is news I couldn't share 15 years ago, and now I can finally tell my parents and family—I'm so incredibly happy. Young editors and animation staff have approached me, their eyes shining, telling me, 'I loved PSYREN when I was a teenager!' To see former fans grow up, become adults, and even get involved in the anime's production themselves, it fills me with nothing but emotion and gratitude. I've even been involved in some of the scriptwriting, and I can't wait to see Ageha and the others moving and speaking on screen."

The official announcement pegs the broadcast for sometime in 2026. After all this time—15 years since its conclusion, and having been voted into AnimeJapan's "Manga We Want to See Animated" poll three times—this adaptation is a long time coming! Expect more details to drop from the official channels soon, so fans should keep their eyes peeled for updates.
