Kathryn Bigelow's "Point Break" stands as an iconic action classic of the nineties, not only launching the careers of then-rising stars Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze into an unforgettable on-screen duo, but also inspiring many film enthusiasts to believe that the highly similar plot of the first "The Fast And The Furious" film was born from its influence.

As with many classic IPs, Hollywood naturally considered new installments or remakes of "Point Break." For instance, in 2015, Alcon Entertainment invested over a hundred million dollars to produce a reboot. However, that film saw mediocre box office returns and was critically panned, largely forgotten by most audiences today.

Yet, the failure of the 2015 "Point Break" reboot hasn't entirely extinguished Hollywood's enthusiasm for the franchise. According to a "Deadline" report this morning, AMC Studios is now developing a spinoff series based on the original "Point Break." David Kalstein has been tapped to pen the script. The story is reportedly set 35 years after the events of the film, focusing on a new crew of robbers reminiscent of the original "Ex-Presidents" gang, effectively serving as a soft-reboot sequel.
