Toho, Japan Airport Terminal Co., and Tokyo International Airport Terminal Co. teamed up in late October to launch a colossal initiative dubbed the "HANEDA GODZILLA GLOBAL PROJECT." Their mission? To catapult Japanese entertainment from Haneda Airport onto the world stage.
The star of the show is a mind-blowing 40-meter-long Godzilla statue, towering over the departure hall. Today (December 19), its grand unveiling ceremony took place at Haneda Airport, officially welcoming the King of the Monsters to its new home.

As Japan's premier air gateway and a vital hub for broadcasting culture and entertainment to the world, Haneda Airport is now Godzilla's latest stomping ground. This colossal commemorative statue, measuring approximately 40 meters long and 9 meters tall, is set to be officially unveiled on December 20th in the 3rd-floor departure lobby of Terminal 3. It's poised to become the ultimate greeter for visitors and a formidable farewell for departing travelers. This awe-inspiring Godzilla, exclusive to Haneda, is guaranteed to leave an unforgettable impression on everyone passing through the airport.

The exhibition is slated to kick off on December 20th and run for approximately one year. Its design is faithfully based on the original 1954 "Godzilla" film, custom-built specifically for Haneda Airport. Crafted using original design documents, the statue was 3D-sculpted from high-density foam resin, treated with a special surface coating, and finished with water-based latex paint. The entire production process began in September 2023 and wrapped up in December 2025.

But wait, there's more! The soaring space above the information counter in the Terminal 3, 2nd-floor arrival lobby will also feature a massive decorative artwork titled "Godzilla: All Monsters Attack Emaki."
This vibrant display will bring together popular monsters from the Showa to Heisei eras, including Godzilla, Little Godzilla, Super X, Mechagodzilla, Titanosaurus, Gigan, Jet Jaguar, Hedorah, King Caesar, Rodan, Anguirus, Baragon, Destoroyah, King Ghidorah, SpaceGodzilla, Biollante, Battra Larva, and both adult and larval Mothra. This exhibition is also expected to run for about a year.

And if that wasn't enough, a roughly 2-meter-tall "Godzilla Minus One" statue will be installed in the Terminal 3, 2nd-floor arrival lobby starting December 23rd. Also set to be on display for a year, it promises to deliver a full dose of Godzilla shock to travelers the moment they step off the plane.
During today's opening ceremony, Masatoshi Akahori, President of Tokyo International Airport Terminal, chuckled as he recounted a previous visit to Keikyu Corporation. They had jokingly boasted, "Our Shinagawa Station has been stomped on by Godzilla, you know!" Akahori later discovered that Haneda Airport's runways were indeed trashed in the 22nd Godzilla film. Despite this, everyone involved in the current project unanimously gave it the green light, leading Akahori to exclaim, "You can really feel just how much everyone loves Godzilla!"
Hearing this anecdote, Toho's Senior Managing Executive Officer, Keiji Ota, humorously shot back: "Cities destroyed by Godzilla always revive and become even more prosperous! So maybe we should've let him wreck a bit more back then!" His witty remark brought a wave of laughter from the crowd.
