"Detective Conan," a show that's been a yearly staple for fans, is hitting a massive milestone next year: its 30th anniversary! Not only is the TV anime still going strong, but its annual movies consistently smash box office records.
Today, during the "Anime 30th Anniversary Year-End Info Reveal" program on its official YouTube channel, the team dropped a huge bomb: the iconic "Brick Wall Door" animation, which bookends each episode, is getting its first update in 25 years! The brand-new version will officially debut on January 3, 2026, with the broadcast of "Episode 'ZERO' Shinichi Kudo's Aquarium Case." Plus, some of the main episode's visuals are getting a refresh too.

So, what's this "Brick Wall Door" all about? It's that mysterious door sequence that pops up before and after commercials in every "Detective Conan" episode. With its distinctive opening and closing sound effects, it shuts at the end of Part A and reopens for the start of Part B, serving as a crucial transition for the story. It's an instantly recognizable classic for fans, and while the background music has changed over the years, the animation itself has remained untouched.

The animation production team revealed that the current CG brick wall door was actually created way back in November 2000 and has been in use since the two-hour special, "The Collected Detectives! Shinichi Kudo vs. Kaitou Kid," which aired on January 8, 2001, as Episode 219. While the aspect ratio was adjusted in Episode 453 in 2006 for digital terrestrial broadcasting, the core assets themselves were never swapped out. This truly marks a "quarter-century mega-update"!
The production team also shared a heartfelt message: "The 30th anniversary is just one stage for this series. We want to showcase the evolution of our visual storytelling to all the fans who've supported us every step of the way." This update is built around a core concept of "gratitude," with clever touches hidden in both the visuals and detailed designs. The team is pulling out all the stops to make this fresh new endeavor a success.

What's more, the one-hour 30th-anniversary special, "Episode 'ZERO' Shinichi Kudo's Aquarium Case," is set to air on January 3, 2026, giving everyone a chance to revisit this classic incident.

The anime series kicked off in 1996, followed by the movies in 1997, and both have been running strong ever since. 2026 marks that huge 30th-anniversary milestone for the anime. This "Brick Wall Door" update is definitely seen as a major symbol of stepping into a new era. What will the new version look like? We can't wait to find out!
