Comiket's Mysterious "Celestial Dragon" Building: Netizens Joke It's for "Looking Down on Commoners," But It Actually Has a Purpose!

Japan's largest doujinshi event, Comic Market (Comiket, C107), took place from December 30-31, celebrating its 50th anniversary with a massive turnout.

On Japanese social media, a hot topic of discussion emerged: "What exactly is that mysterious space for?" referring to a distinctive building at the Comiket venue, widely known as "Tokyo Big Sight" (Tokyo International Exhibition Center). This elevated spot, which offers a panoramic view of the entire event, was playfully dubbed the "exclusive zone for looking down on commoners" by netizens, who joked that "Celestial Dragons" must reside there.

Anyone who's been to or even seen photos of Comiket's venue will surely recognize this striking building at Tokyo International Exhibition Center. The original poster on X (formerly Twitter) humorously asked, "Every time, I wonder what this area is for. Could it really be for Celestial Dragons?" sparking a lively debate among users.

Perhaps you're curious too! This tall structure looks incredibly premium, giving off a vibe of superiority. Do the people inside truly enjoy a special status?

After the question went viral, some netizens provided the answer: "That's the Conference Tower; it has meeting rooms inside." Another user elaborated, "The official name of that building is the 'Conference Tower.' It has 22 meeting rooms and reception rooms, spread across three floors, and can accommodate up to 1,000 people."

Furthermore, one netizen recalled a past experience: they once hosted an event there to "watch 'Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!' simultaneously in the same location as depicted in the film," having rented one of the meeting rooms.

Interestingly, this space is often repurposed as a Cosplayer changing room during Comiket. "During a previous Comiket, I remember the changing rooms were up there; I took the escalator to get to them." Another user added, "Many people have mentioned that it's often used as a changing room during Comiket. It used to be a paid lounge too."

However, many who haven't attended the event mistakenly believe this building is the main venue. "People who haven't been to Comiket always think, 'Oh, so the sales event is held here!'" and "I always thought that was the venue too..." But in reality, it's not where the main action happens at all! XD

Given the building's elevated perspective, netizens playfully dubbed it the "Celestial Dragon exclusive zone," with comments like: "The commoner-overlooking zone." "Where you watch the plebs queue up from above." "It's the spot where you stand and say, 'There are as many people as there is trash.'" "Behold, commoners, this is the view of the Celestial Dragons!"

From meeting rooms to changing rooms, this "mysterious space" boasts multiple uses, and coupled with the wild imaginations of social media users, it has become quite the talking point. If you ever get the chance to visit Comiket, be sure to keep an eye out for this iconic building! XD
