Director Francis Ford Coppola's epic passion project, "Megalopolis," which he self-funded with over a hundred million dollars of his own fortune, was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews upon its release two years ago. While a handful of cinephiles and fellow directors praised its avant-garde aesthetics and unconventional, often challenging approach, the biggest blow to Coppola was its catastrophic box office performance. The film grossed just over $14.38 million worldwide, leaving Coppola, who poured his life savings into funding the project, reportedly near bankruptcy.
Despite the significant financial losses from "Megalopolis," Coppola's creative ambition remains undeterred. He continues to host small screenings of the film at various events and tours, and now plans to re-edit the entire picture, releasing a brand-new extended cut.

During a Q&A session for "Megalopolis" last year, Coppola mentioned that the currently released version had an entire dream sequence removed. He also expressed a desire to include more footage to make the film "weirder," stating, "The original version was much weirder, and I own all the rights to this film, so I can cut it however I want."
Coppola isn't just talking; he's actively re-editing the film and has even settled on a new title. He recently revealed to The Telegraph that the extended cut of "Megalopolis" will be titled "Megalopolis Unbound." While Coppola did not specify a release date for the new version, he hinted it would arrive this year and promised the added content would be "very wild."
