Hitoshi Iwaaki, the manga maestro behind the acclaimed "Parasyte," is bringing another one of his masterpieces, "Historie" (ヒストリエ), to the small screen! It was officially announced today (1/1) that the historical epic will be adapted into a TV anime, with LIDENFILMS handling production. The official reveal dropped with a killer key visual, a teaser PV, and a heartfelt message from Iwaaki-sensei himself.
When you hear Hitoshi Iwaaki, "Parasyte" is probably the first thing that springs to mind, cementing his image as a horror manga legend. But don't pigeonhole him just yet! Iwaaki's got a diverse portfolio, and "Historie," set against the backdrop of Alexander the Great's Macedonian Empire, is a prime example. Serialized in Kodansha's "Monthly Afternoon" since 2003, it's already racked up 12 tankobon volumes.
The story plunges us into the BCE era, chronicling the tumultuous life of Eumenes, the man destined to become Alexander the Great's personal secretary. Born into the "barbarian" Scythian tribe, Eumenes grows up in the city-state of Cardia, raised by Greek foster parents and receiving a full Hellenic education, completely unaware of his true origins. But when his foster father is murdered, his real lineage comes to light, and he's promptly cast into slavery, embarking on a journey fraught with upheaval and trials.
Creator Hitoshi Iwaaki shared his thoughts on the anime adaptation:
"I extend my deepest gratitude to everyone involved in bringing this anime to life. The concept for this story was born over 40 years ago, and then, two decades ago, I started drawing it on paper in my tiny studio. Now, thanks to the incredible efforts of so many people, these characters are finally being given 'moving life.' I truly want to celebrate this moment."
While a broadcast date hasn't been announced yet, given the sheer scope and world-building of "Historie," we're hyped to see LIDENFILMS deliver an outstanding adaptation. Fans of the series should definitely keep an eye out for more official updates!
