Dragon Quest VII Gets Direct Manga Sequel "DRAGON QUEST EDEN," Returning After 20 Years

The RPG phenomenon "Dragon Quest" is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, maintaining sky-high popularity and cementing its status as one of SQUARE ENIX's flagship franchises.

Now, "Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden" is getting a brand-new manga series, "DRAGON QUEST EDEN," which officially kicked off its serialization in today's issue of "YOUNG GANGAN." This highly anticipated title is a direct sequel to the "Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden" manga, which concluded back in December 2005. Its return after nearly two decades has sent waves of excitement through long-time fans.

The original "Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden" manga ran from 2001 to 2006, spanning 14 tankōbon volumes. In the manga, the hero was named "Arus." It retold the game's story, weaving in new characters and expanding on themes of friendship.

This new installment is once again helmed by the original author, Kamui Fujiwara, also known for the "Dragon Quest Retsuden: Roto no Monshō" series. The legendary creator of "Dragon Quest," Yuji Horii, is supervising the project. To mark the occasion, official channels have also unveiled new illustrations personally drawn by Fujiwara-sensei.

Considering the previous series wrapped up two decades ago, launching a direct sequel during "Dragon Quest's" 40th anniversary year is undoubtedly a huge win for fans.

Meanwhile, the original "Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden" first launched on the PlayStation platform on August 26, 2000, becoming a hot topic thanks to its unique world-building and massive story content. A remake, "Dragon Quest VII Reimagined," is set to release on February 5, 2026, already reigniting series hype.

With a manga sequel now in the mix, it looks like "Dragon Quest's" 40th anniversary is packed with new projects, ensuring the IP continues its reign of popularity!
