Gintama's brand new animated film, "New Gintama The Movie: Yoshiwara in Flames", set to release in 2026, dropped a bombshell today with the announcement of an original movie character, "Enkaku", voiced by veteran seiyuu Kappei Yamaguchi.

According to official statements, Enkaku is an Amanto who deeply reveres Hosen, the "King of the Night". Operating covertly as Hosen's close aide within Yoshiwara's underground pleasure district, Taoyuan, Enkaku typically hides their true identity as a courtesan, becoming a crucial catalyst for the plot. The production team emphasized that Enkaku isn't just a simple villain or sidekick; their actions and stance will add new layers to Hosen and Yoshiwara's story.
The film adapts the critically acclaimed "Yoshiwara in Flames Arc" from original creator Hideaki Sorachi, reimagined as a theatrical movie with brand-new animation. It's slated for a nationwide release in Japan on February 13, 2026. Officials stated that this arc, hailed by fans as one of Gintama's most emotionally intense, will deliver even more stunning visuals in CinemaScope widescreen.
Hideaki Sorachi himself is involved in the production as a "Supervisory Gorilla Advisor" (a nod to his self-deprecating nickname). He revealed that this movie will be the "complete version" he envisions.

In other news, the official team also confirmed that the original voice cast for Kabukicho's main characters will all return. Kujira will reprise her role as Otose, Yu Sugimoto returns as Catherine, and Omi Minami continues as Tama. Several new scene photos have also been released, showcasing the familiar characters in action within the movie.
