Created by the late manga legend Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball just hit its 40th serialization anniversary this year, and it's no secret it's a classic for countless fans, with both the manga and anime holding a special place in many hearts.
During today's (1/25) massive commemorative event, the "Dragon Ball Spirit Bomb Festival," officials dropped a bombshell: a brand-new anime series, Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol (tentative title, ドラゴンボール超 銀河パトロール), is officially in the works! What's even wilder? The late Akira Toriyama himself handled the original concept, story composition, and character designs for this new project. They also unveiled a key visual and a special teaser video.
The story of "Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol" picks up right after the "Universal Survival Saga" from the Dragon Ball Super TV anime, which aired from 2015 to 2018. For manga readers, this arc was covered as the "Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga" in the Dragon Ball Super tankōbon volumes.
Get ready for Goku and Vegeta to team up with the "Galactic Patrol" – the guardians of cosmic peace – as they face off against a terrifying new foe: the planet-devouring demon, Moro! Expect an absolutely insane, universe-shaking battle of epic proportions.
The promotional video, also revealed at the event, flashed the words "New Chapter Begins!" before dropping the official title, "Dragon Ball Super Galactic Patrol." It also gave us a first look at Goku and Vegeta's fresh new designs, sending fans into an absolute frenzy!
Even Masako Nozawa, the legendary voice actress for Goku, who appeared on stage at the event, couldn't help but exclaim, "Is that right?! I'm surprised too!" when the new anime was announced – a truly adorable reaction!
While it's still under wraps whether this will be a TV anime or a movie, one thing's for sure: new Dragon Ball content, especially a whole new saga, is definitely something to get hyped about!
