Masamune Shirow's iconic manga, "Ghost in the Shell," shot to international fame with Mamoru Oshii's 1995 animated film adaptation, solidifying its status as a cyberpunk and sci-fi classic. Over the past three decades, the franchise has seen numerous anime and 3DCG adaptations.
In 2023, a new TV anime was announced, produced by "Science SARU," the animation studio founded by producer Eunyoung Choi and director Masaaki Yuasa. Today (Jan 30), the series officially locked in its July 2026 premiere, dropping a fresh teaser visual and special promo video. Fans are already hyped, especially since the overall art style is incredibly faithful to the original manga!

Beyond the original manga, "Ghost in the Shell" has spawned numerous anime adaptations since the 1995 film, including versions directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Mamoru Oshii, and even the recent 3DCG anime, "Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045."
Each iteration of "Ghost in the Shell" has consistently earned widespread acclaim for its stellar plots, top-tier animation, and deep dives into philosophical and sociological themes. It's widely regarded as one of the pioneering works that propelled Japanese anime into the Western market in the 1990s.

The first key visual, unveiled simultaneously, stars Motoko Kusanagi, freshly drawn by character designer and chief animation director Shuhei Handa. It's not just a killer homage to Masamune Shirow's original illustrations; it also cranks up the iconic cyberpunk sci-fi visual tension, giving off an absolutely electrifying vibe!
This new TV anime, "Ghost in the Shell THE GHOST IN THE SHELL," marks the directorial debut for Moko-chan, who previously showed off their talent as assistant director on "Dandadan" and other projects. The series composition and script are handled by sci-fi novelist Toh Enjoe, known for his work on "Godzilla Singular Point." Meanwhile, character design and chief animation direction fall to Shuhei Handa, whose credits include "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off" and "Spriggan."

The music production team has also been revealed! Taisei Iwasaki, who snagged the Japan Academy Film Prize for "Best Music" for the film "Belle," is confirmed as the music director.
The score itself will be a collaborative effort, featuring not only Taisei Iwasaki but also:
Ryo Konishi: Previously served as music director for the opening ceremony of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo.
Yuki Kanesaka: Based in the US, he recently composed music for the anime "Dr. STONE."

The newly released PV is packed entirely with footage from the actual anime! It showcases protagonist Motoko Kusanagi, with her full-body prosthetics, alongside the members of Public Security Section 9, diving into intense dramatic conflicts and action sequences in this upcoming series.
