BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division in Japan has announced the commercialization of a new, in-development product from the 'MGSD (MASTER GRADE SD)' series, which combines MG series technology with SD Gundam proportions. This latest release, 'Wing Gundam Zero EW [Structural Color Coating],' hails from *Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz*, and a prototype has been showcased.
The foundation for this product is the 'MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW,' released in late 2024. This kit integrates MG-level part separation, color molding, and articulation design into a 12 cm tall SD Gundam body. Beyond its high-density detailed sculpting, it utilizes new materials and articulation mechanisms, allowing the mobile suit's appearance to be constructed step-by-step from its internal movable frame. Realistic metallic gloss injection parts achieve a metallic texture, while multi-layered structures are employed for areas like sensors and twin-eye cameras, recreating intricate internal details beneath transparent covers. Even the detailed structure of the ZERO System within the cockpit is faithfully reproduced.
The prototype for the 'MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW [Structural Color Coating]' showcased this time features all exterior armor parts molded in matte black and matte gray. The 'E runner,' which originally used realistic metallic gloss injection molding, has been replaced with parts produced using a special 'structural color coating' technology. This gives the parts a structural color similar to surfaces found on bubbles, CDs, or insect wings, where the color irregularly shifts into a rainbow spectrum depending on the viewing angle.
Once the kit is assembled, the dazzling structural color subtly peeks through the gaps in the jet-black armor. When the mobile suit's original mechanisms, such as those in the head, shoulder armor, and wings, are deployed, the internal structural color coated parts become even more prominent.
