American cyclist Lance Armstrong, who famously won the Tour de France seven consecutive times, had his life story adapted into the biopic "The Program" 11 years ago, with Ben Foster portraying Armstrong. Now, over a decade later, a new film aims to retell Armstrong's controversial journey, this time starring Austin Butler in the lead role.

This new biopic will be directed by Edward Berger, known for "Conclave," and co-produced with Scott Stuber, the former head of Netflix's original film division. Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Zach Baylin, who penned "King Richard," is attached to write the script. While the project has yet to secure a distributor, it has already sparked a fierce bidding war across Hollywood. A key distinction from "The Program" is that this new adaptation marks the first time Armstrong himself has officially authorized the project, unlike the previous film which was based on a biography written by others.
