The internet horror meme "The Backrooms," an urban legend-style phenomenon that has gained immense popularity across global social media platforms in recent years, has become a significant source of inspiration for numerous film, television, and video game projects. The Korean drama "Midnight Horror: Six Nights" featured an episode based on the concept, and various video games drawing from "The Backrooms" have emerged on platforms like Steam and Roblox. Now, indie powerhouse A24 Films is bringing a Hollywood-scale feature film adaptation to the big screen.

The "Backrooms" film is directed by 20-year-old American YouTuber Kane Pixels, known for his viral series of "Backrooms" found-footage shorts. This marks his feature directorial debut. Pixels co-wrote the screenplay with Roberto Patino and Will Soodik, both co-writers on the HBO series "Westworld." Horror maestro James Wan and Shawn Levy, director of several episodes and executive producer of the Netflix series "Stranger Things," are jointly producing the project.
