Ryan Gosling's space sci-fi epic "Project Hail Mary," buoyed by the immense popularity of its source novel, debuted to a stellar opening weekend. The film grossed $80.5 million in North America, surpassing 2023's "Creed III" ($58 million) to become Amazon MGM Studios' highest domestic opening in history. This impressive figure also topped last month's "Scream 7" ($63 million), making "Project Hail Mary" the biggest opening of the year to date.

Internationally, "Project Hail Mary" also performed exceptionally well, pulling in $60.4 million during its opening frame. This brings its worldwide opening weekend total to a staggering $140.9 million. While the film carried a hefty production budget of nearly $200 million (excluding marketing), meaning it still has some ground to cover to reach profitability, strong word-of-mouth from both audiences and critics suggests a steady, long-term box office run with minimal drop-offs.
