Japan's biggest doujinshi event, Comic Market (Comiket), is gearing up for C108 this summer and C109 this winter, promising massive crowds as always.
The Comic Market Preparatory Committee announced on March 24 that "Comic Market 109 (C109)" will run for three consecutive days, from December 29 to 31, at its usual spot, Tokyo Big Sight. Circle applications are expected to open in August. This marks the first time the event has returned to a three-day schedule since C97 in 2019!

So, what's behind the extended run? The switch to a three-day format is primarily due to a surge in circle applications for Winter Comiket compared to its summer counterpart in recent years. Plus, Tokyo Big Sight is currently undergoing major renovations, which means less available hall space. This adjustment helps accommodate all those eager creators. Fun fact: The last time Comiket ran for more than two days was way back at C97 in 2019!
Organizers also noted that during C109, Halls East 4-6 will be unavailable due to ongoing renovations, significantly impacting the venue's capacity. Extending the event days was a necessary move to ensure all booths could be properly set up.
Looking ahead, once the renovation work is slated to wrap up by the end of 2026, there's a chance for all 16 exhibition halls to be fully utilized again in 2027. So, this three-day C109 is a temporary measure for now. Whether it sticks around in the future will depend on how circle application numbers evolve.
Circle applications for C109 are expected to open around August. More detailed information will be released on the official website and X (formerly Twitter), so keep a close eye on those official announcements if you're planning to join the fun!
