Shinji Higuchi Draws Epic Mothra Year Art for Godzilla Store's Spring Campaign: "Drawing Mothra is Pure Bliss!"

A kaiju as iconic as Godzilla itself, and a fan-favorite from Toho's tokusatsu universe, "Mothra" is hitting two massive milestones in 2026: the 30th anniversary of the Heisei Mothra Trilogy and the 65th anniversary of her debut back in 1961!

To celebrate, the six official "Godzilla Store" locations across Japan are launching their "HEAT RAY CAMPAIGN" spring event, kicking off on the 27th. And get this: they've unveiled a brand-new, special illustration of Mothra by none other than director Shinji Higuchi, all to mark this epic "Mothra Year" (モスライヤー).

The "Godzilla Store" (ゴジラ・ストア) footprint in Japan is also expanding! On April 6th, not only will the first store in the Kyushu region, "Godzilla Store Hakata," open its doors, but the Osaka "Umeda Store" will also relocate and reopen on the same day, officially bringing the total to six locations.

For the "HEAT RAY CAMPAIGN," the main visual features a brand-new illustration specially drawn by director Shinji Higuchi, known for his work on "Shin Godzilla." The artwork puts Mothra, celebrating her anniversary this year, front and center, joined by Godzilla and Mothra Larva. The whole scene is incredibly dynamic and powerful, making it the perfect centerpiece for the campaign.

Higuchi-sensei also shared his thoughts on the artwork:

"I was absolutely thrilled to get the chance to draw Mothra for the Godzilla Store campaign. When you think of Mothra, you think of her vibrant colors, her origins in a South Seas paradise. She's a kaiju of incredible transformation—hatching from an egg, crawling on the ground, spinning a cocoon, and finally soaring into the sky. Plus, she communicates through the glowing Shobijin twins! She's a sacred, radiant being full of love and peace. Drawing such a joyful subject truly filled me with happiness. Even the usually gloomy Godzilla couldn't help but want to throw up a peace sign (laughs). Alright, back to work!"

To commemorate the launch of the spring campaign, all six "Godzilla Store" locations across Japan will also be rolling out merchandise featuring this stunning visual, including posters, T-shirts, tote bags, and more. Fans won't want to miss out!
