A stabbing incident occurred at the Pokémon Center inside Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, in the evening. A female employee in her 20s was stabbed by a man, who then stabbed himself in the neck. Both individuals were unconscious when transported to the hospital, and police have now confirmed both have died. The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns about mall security.
According to police and related sources, the incident took place between approximately 7:15 PM and 7:20 PM JST at the Pokémon Center on the second floor of Sunshine City in Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima Ward, Tokyo. Police received multiple reports of "a man causing a disturbance with a knife inside the store." Upon arrival, officers found a man attacking a female employee in her 20s with a knife inside the Pokémon Center.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a commotion within the mall, with staff carrying AEDs and protective equipment, and also hearing the man's shouts. Other reports indicate that the man was holding two knives and broke into the counter area before carrying out the attack, leaving the female employee severely injured on the floor.


Police stated that after stabbing the employee, the man immediately cut his own neck with the knife. Both individuals were rushed to the hospital unconscious. However, the hospital later confirmed that both succumbed to their severe injuries and died.
Police have not yet confirmed if the two individuals knew each other, nor is the man's motive for the crime clear. The Metropolitan Police Department is conducting a further investigation into the incident's circumstances and background, while also working to ascertain how the man entered the mall with a knife and the details of the attack.
